Disney auf Deutsch

I read on Adventures of the Directionally Challenged’s blog that one of the ways she learns new languages is to listen to her favourite Disney songs in her new language. I think that this is such an awesome idea especially since most of the foreign language Disney songs on You Tube have subtitles in that language so you can learn the lyrics.

Therefore, I spent this weekend tracking down my favourite Disney songs in German on You Tube.  What I found interesting is for some of them how different the lyrics are in German compared to the English language lyrics.

So, if you are interested in adding some Disney songs to your German language learning pack, here are my favourites.

Aladdin – In meiner Welt

Pocahontas – Farbenspiel des Winds

Die Schöne und das Biest  – Die Schöne und das Biest

Die Schöne und das Biest  – Belle (Unsere Stadt)

Der König der LöwenDer ewige Kreis

And though this song is not technically Disney, it’s a traditional German lullaby, it is played on Disney Junior here in Germany – and is just so adorable.  Thanks to Texasborncologne for sending it to me.

    • I’m getting confused in German as well because I know the songs in English so well. Who would have thought that learning Disney songs was a bad idea?

      • I actually love this idea. When I first got here, the Lion King was back in theatres. Excuse me, Der König der Lowen. I went to see it in German even though I knew barely any German because I wanted to see how well I could follow it without the language. To my vast surprise, I actually *learned* some German from watching the movie, because of my familiarity with the English version.

I had been planning on trying to watch other Disney classics auf Deutsch, but it hadn’t occurred to me to look for the soundtracks on Youtube. Brilliant idea, Riayn.

As an aside, I just sent the LaLeLu video to my sister-in-law. My niece is just over a year old, so it’s kinda perfect for her. And you’re right, it’s absolutely adorable.

        • We actually have the musical Der König der Lowen playing here in Hamburg, but I haven’t been to see it cause I was afraid I wouldn’t understand anything. I think that excuse won’t work for too much longer.

I hope your niece enjoys LaLeLu.
